Reducing flood risk in Mansfield with SuDS: lessons learned

A susdrain event in collaboration with Severn Trent, CIWEM, Arup, and AECOM.

Thank you for joining us in Mansfield to see the UK’s largest sustainable drainage scheme and learn about the impact, benefits and critical success factors delivering retrofit SuDS at pace and scale.

Severn Trent has invested £76 million in Mansfield as part of a range of nature-based solutions to protect communities from flooding. Working with Mansfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, the Mansfield Sustainable Flood Resilience project is the largest project of its kind ever to be attempted in the UK.

More than 340 sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) have been installed across Mansfield since 2022 to divert surface water away from sewers, slowing it down and helping its drains to cope.

The project serves as a blueprint for how we manage flooding in the future.

Attendees visited several SuDS installations across Mansfield during the morning, and heard candid insights from the delivery partners as part of the project’s legacy during the afternoon's talks and interactive sessions.
